My Approach
My approach to civil litigation is to seek a practical resolution of the dispute, striving for the best possible result for the client. My strengths are my advocacy, skill and ability to provide clarity, quickly breaking down complex situations and providing transparency to the client throughout the process. In my work in family law, I am sensitive to the financial and emotional tolls of trial and strive for fairness and civility. In all cases, I am passionate about advocating for my client’s best interests.
Practice Areas
Civil Litigation
My litigation clients include insurance companies, national retail businesses and manufacturers, construction companies, and a variety of professional organizations and individuals. I have successfully tried many civil cases in both state and federal courts, involving a variety of issues including professional liability, products liability, personal injury, liquor liability, contractual disputes, premises liability, and fraud. I have also prevailed in a number of appeals before the Vermont Supreme Court and in the Unites States Court of Appeals for the Second and Fourth Circuits.
Family Law
I represent individuals in cases involving a variety of issues including jurisdiction, parental rights and responsibilities, spousal maintenance, child support and the distribution of substantial assets.
Immigration
I also have extensive experience in immigration, stemming from my work in the 1980s as a staff attorney with the United States Customs Service in Washington D.C. and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Vermont and the Eastern District of Virginia. I have over 20 years of experience handling a variety of immigration matters, including successfully obtaining numerous temporary and permanent visas for individuals and employees of international companies, colleges, hospitals and other enterprises, and have successfully represented many individuals in removal and asylum proceedings.
